1. What was your first reaction when you first arrived to Hong Kong city?

I loved it!  It is such a vibrant city full of interesting things round every corner.  It is also a place of great contrast; a busy city with tranquil beaches and amazing hikes.

2. What is the best thing about being a teacher?

The ‘lightbulb’ moment.  When children make the links and connections themselves and suddenly are able to explain it with such clarity.

3. What sort of advice can you give to parents moving to a new city with children?

Be prepared for the ups and downs.  There are a lot of changes and for some children that is very difficult.  Allow them time to express this to you and try and put some routine into their lives as soon as you can.  It can be a very exciting time  go out and explore your new city and have fun.

4. Why did you choose Nord Anglia Education to expand your career?

Nord Anglia Education has so many opportunities for teachers to further develop their knowledge and training especially with their own Nord Anglia University.   The wealth of talent at each school is impressive enabling us to learn from each other and develop our skills further.

5. How does NAIS compare to other schools you’ve taught at?

One of the biggest differences compared to schools I’ve taught in both Australia and the UK is the specialist teaching in primary.  It has been wonderful to see how the children have developed skills in Art, Music, PE, and Drama from great specialist teachers.

6. Who was your role model growing up and why?

My dad.  He always encouraged me to challenge myself to try new things and explore.  He was never bored or exasperated by my many questions about the world but fostered my curiosity.

7. Recommend the best place for families to visit in your city.

Trio beach.  Catch a sampan from Hebe (Pak Sha Wan) pier to Trio beach hire a BBQ pit and have a wonderful day on a beautiful clean Hong Kong beach.

8. What is the one lesson that you want your students to take away with them at the end of the academic year?

To have a love for learning – be curious and ask questions.

9. Your one advice for parents moving/living abroad.

Make the most of it!  Make sure you experience the culture, food and opportunities each place has.  It is the perfect opportunity to open your child’s mind to the wonders of the world.

10. What do you do when you get homesick?

A taste of something from home.  Sometimes all I need is a comforting cheese and vegemite sandwich and a long chat with some friends from home.
