FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- How do I apply?
Please complete the online application form with details for each child, which you’ll send to the NAIS Hong Kong’s admissions department. We’ll also ask you for:
- Previous school reports
- Medical and passport documentation
- A student reference request from your child’s current school
- The application fee for those applying to Lam Tin and Kwun Tong. There is no application for our Sai Kung Campus
When we have received and reviewed the documents, we’ll then invite applicants for an assessment, and if appropriate, for an interview.
For more information about applications, or to book a visit, please contact admissions@nais.hk
- How do you prioritise assessments?
We aim to meet as many children as possible during our assessment periods, which we organise on a rolling basis.
While we guarantee an assessment for siblings and debenture holders we are not able to guarantee assessments for all other children due to the volume of applications we receive.
As our application fee is non-refundable, we strongly encourage you to contact our Admissions Manager before you apply if you have any concerns about available places or your child's eligibility.
If your child is not offered a place during this first round of assessments, we may offer you the option of remaining on a waiting list, and we’ll contact you if places become available.
- What does NAIS Hong Kong look for when assessing applicants?
- While we place a strong emphasis on academic achievement, we also look for how students show our core values of respect, tolerance, responsibility, and independent thinking at the heart of our learning community. When assessing students’ applications, we take all these aspects into consideration to create the strongest possible learning environment for your child.
- What happens during my child’s assessment?
Our assessments are usually conducted in small groups of 8 to 10 students and have been designed to be as relaxed as possible. We aim to get to know your child better and to understand how they learn.
We do not do formal interviews. Our team will be on hand to encourage and support the children throughout the assessment, making them feel comfortable.
Please bring the following documents to the assessment:- The student’s Hong Kong ID card or passport
- A cheque payable to Nord Anglia International School HK Ltd or proof of payment by bank transfer, emailed to our admissions team.
Please note that we are not able to accept cash.
- When will we hear back after the assessment?
We know that families are always keen to find out the results of assessments, and we aim to respond to families within two weeks. This may be slightly longer at peak periods. One of our Admissions Managers will be your direct contact throughout the process, and you’re always welcome to contact them for updates.
Although we wish we could offer all children places at our school, our spaces are frequently limited. You’ll receive one of three notifications:- An offer of place, together with an ‘enrolment acceptance’ letter and an invoice for payment of our non-refundable Capital Enrolment Fee (CEF).
- An offer to remain on the waitlist and to be contacted should a place become available for your child.
- An email notifying you that we’re unable to offer a place to your child.
- Who receives priority allocations?
We do offer priority for assessments and places, in common with other international schools in Hong Kong, according to the following criteria:
- A child allocated by a Corporate Debenture holder
- A child allocated by an Individual Debenture holder
- Siblings of students already attending a Nord Anglia school
- Students who have already attended another Nord Anglia school for a period of at least three months
- Students with English as their first language, who are unable to access the local curriculum
Please note that each student must still meet our admission requirements. Our principal makes the final decision for all students.
- How does the process differ if my company is paying the tuition fees?
- Our aim is to make the process as straightforward and simple as possible for you. If your company will be paying school fees, our Admissions team and Finance team will be happy to work directly with your company on financial matters, allowing you to concentrate on your child’s education and wellbeing.
- What if my child needs extra support?
- At NAIS Hong Kong, we embrace all children at our school. Our teachers are experts at working with them as individuals and adapting to a range of their needs. We appreciate that each child may need extra support at some time, whether with a specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia, or an emotional need, such as bereavement.
It's essential during the application stage that parents are as open as possible about any additional support their child may need. Expert reports or speaking with your child’s previous teachers are useful ways for us to assess how well we can support your child. In some instances, we may suggest additional support in the classroom. This may incur extra charges, which we’ll discuss with you before offering a place.
However, after discussion with you, it may be that we cannot support your child's particular learning needs. In this case, we may explain, with regret, that we can't offer a place.- What are your withdrawal policies?
- If at any time after enrolment you’d like to withdraw your child from NAIS Hong Kong, we require three complete term time months’ notice in writing. We require you to complete the Withdrawal Notice Form found on our parent portal FireFly. You must email the completed Withdrawal Form to admissions@nais.hk.
The Notice Period is also in our Enrolment Letter and our Terms and Conditions Appendix, which families receive prior to enrolling at NAIS HK. We also explain the Notice Period in all our communications to families about re-enrolment in our Annual Re-Enrolment Survey.
