Anna Lamieri

Anna has just graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a Master’s in Chemistry (First Class Honors) and is currently working at Pharmaron which is a multinational CRO. After carrying out a year of Master's Research there, Pharmaron asked her to stay on as an Analytical Chemist, working on pharmaceutical agents for world-renowned customers. She loved her university experience and is now very excited to see what this new job and her life in London will bring!

During her time at Nord Anglia International School Shanghai Pudong, her greatest memories involve the sports teams and the school musicals. Anna played volleyball, basketball and football, and she enjoyed every single moment of each training session, each game, and each tournament. Some of her best friends she met through these teams, and she would do it all over again. Anna loved school musicals right from the auditions through to the final night of the show. It was so much fun spending her afternoons going through lines, songs and dances with people from different years, which allowed her to get to know them and become friends.

Anna’s passions have very much remained the same since her time at NAIS. The Sciences have always been very interesting to her, and she still really enjoys learning new things and studying new subjects. Although she can’t play as much sport, volleyball remains a constant and a major part of her life. Lastly, our school allowed Anna to meet people from all over the world, which to this day fuels her passion for traveling, learning about new cultures, and visiting the most wonderful places.

Anna’s advice is “To do as many extracurricular activities as you like and enjoy yourself. Join that sports team, join that choir, join that society, join that music course! You won’t remember your tests, your Maths grades, or your English essays, but what you will remember is all the new people you become friends with and how much fun you had sharing moments with them!”

Joung Jin Kim

Joung Jin

Following many years studying at Nord Anglia International School Shanghai Pudong, Joung Jin graduated in 2022 and is currently a freshman student at Berklee College of Music, following his passion to study music full-time at one of the best, most prestigious music schools in the world.

In total, Joung Jin was at NAIS for over 8 years, from Year 4 to Year 7, then he went back to Korea before returning to Shanghai and starting again at NAIS to complete Years 10 to 13.

Joung Jin is currently a freshman student at Berklee College of Music, and for these past few weeks, he has been trying to get used to the new community he was part of, and mostly, trying to get to know different musicians at the school. He must admit that he absolutely loved his first few weeks there, as everyone at Berklee are all talented musicians. Joung Jin especially enjoys the jam sessions he has had with other students, where we would just improvise and create a song on the spot for hours, which really gets him excited as most of his life, he did not have many people around him who were so passionate about music.

Personally, Joung Jin thinks that the times he had doing the IB diploma were challenging but fun; as he thought that the IB diploma gave much more freedom to the students, and hence, they were able to decide what they wanted to work on based on our priorities. He thinks that it was excellent preparation for university and college life. His most memorable teachers were the IB team at NAIS. He believes that they truly taught him a lot about taking responsibility as an adult and looking out for academic opportunities to develop himself.

Joung Jin passion has always been music; it has never changed a bit throughout his life, and it is still unbelievable that he gets to study music full-time at one of the best, most prestigious music schools in the world. However, he wanted to become a classical pianist as a child for a while, now he is not entirely sure what kind of musician/artist he wants to be but following his growing interest in various genres and types of music, he would say he is leaning more towards a multi-tasking musician who is based on composing and producing music.

“Never leave your work until the last minute". This is the one piece of advice he wants to give to every student out there, to help with time management and well-being.
