NAIS Pudong Scholarships
The General Consul of Colombia, Mr. Daniel Cruz Cárdenas, and Margarita Sabogal visited our school on 2nd of December 2022. It was an amazing opportunity for our students to speak Spanish in a more formal context whilst learning about Colombia from someone passionate about his country.
Mr. Cruz talked about relationships between Colombia and China, including how countries interact with each other. He also spoke about the specific geographical characteristics of Colombia and it's place in the world. There was then a question and answer session which included prepared and spontaneous questions.
Mr Cruz then presented to the secondary school during assembly. It was a powerful speech addressing reaching for your dreams and motivating yourself to achieve your goals in life. Part of the speech spoke about how important it is to leave school having tried new things and made mistakes to prepare yourself for your university life and career.
In Early Years, it is through individual and shared play that every child is enabled and appropriately challenged in their learning, taking ownership of their own choices by thinking independently, creatively and critically. Our committed team of Early Years specialists strongly believes that early childhood is not a race to see who can master key skills the quickest. Rather, it is a vital time for our children to develop their social skills through meaningful collaboration, learning who they are as individuals, whilst strengthening their physical body and developing their ever-increasing communication and language skills – all through carefully tailored levels of challenge.
Year 10 and 11 MFL students prepared a Cumbia, a traditional dance that was presented in our secondary assembly. These students were rehearsing for many hours in order to learn the steps of the dance. They presented context and history of the dance - the Cumbia. Their performance of the dance was true to the Colombian culture and the traditional dress worn by all the dancers enhanced the dance movements. Parents and students enjoyed the performance.
Overall, we had a fantastic afternoon full of lifelong learning experiences that will remain in the heart of our students and the Colombian Consulate in Shanghai.
As our students depart for their Christmas holidays, we reflect on what has been a very busy first term. From international trips to the USA with UNICEF, STEAM visits to MIT, trekking expeditions to Switzerland, or sports competitions in Thailand, our students have certainly been busy.

We recently had the incredible opportunity to travel to Thailand for the U19 FOBISIA Basketball Invitational, hosted by Rugby School, and the experience was nothing short of outstanding.
This week, our students delivered an inspiring and thought-provoking assembly, showcasing their confidence and maturity in presenting two crucial global themes: the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
