The climate is changing. The earth's temperature is rising. This is due to the increase in greenhouse gases in the air. Climate change has major consequences for people, nature and the environment. Read on to find out more about how NAISR got involved with increasing climate change awareness during World Children's Day.

During World Children's Day, NAISR students prepared workshops which were centred around the UNICEF Sustainable Goals, Convention on the Rights of the Child and Climate Change.

World Children's Day is a day that celebrates the power of children to have an impact on the world and a way to ensure that their voices are heard. Through this event, we wanted children and young people to learn more about their rights but also, to feel more empowered to speak out and call on leaders to fulfil their commitments to fully realise children’s rights.

World Children’s Day is an event organised in the framework of the programme, Social Impact with UNICEF within Nord Anglia Education schools around the world. The purpose of this programme is to teach students who want to make a difference to know how to be agents of positive social, environmental and economic change.  In addition, students are encouraged to develop their knowledge and skills in order to use their voice and take action to positively impact their communities and the world around them.

For all of these reasons, NAISR worked with our students on the theme of Climate Change with the emphasis on transferring knowledge of the causes and consequences of climate change in general, as well as awareness of the consequences and measures in one's own environment. The aim was to help students develop an attitude towards climate change.

As a follow-up regarding the theme of Climate Change and social impact, we invited Wesley dos Santos, a 'Rotterdamer' and an influencer to give a talk about Climate Change and how to be environmentally responsible and therefore have an impact on our community. This has been postponed due to Covid and we hope to welcome Wesley to our school in the near future.
