Students and staff enjoying themselves on Friday night at the Dutch Boekenbal
Throughout the week there were activities based around two books by the famous Dutch writer Harmen van Straaten. Early Years Cubs and Key Stage 1 looked at the book 'Piraten!' And Key Stage 3 were involved in activities around the book 'Super Jan'.
On Friday night, they ended the week with a grand Gala Dinner, their Boekebal. Children from Years 5 to 13 came along for an evening of glamour, mystery and ballroom dancing!
The students dressed in black tie and arrived at school to be greeted by hoards of paparazzi. They all had welcome drinks and then went through to Stage One which had been transformed into the setting of a murder mystery that they had to work together to solve.
This was followed by a delicious three course meal (including alphabet soup especially for book week!), made and served by the parents who acted as butlers on the night and did a brilliant job. Throughout the evening there were readings from books and children shared their favourite books with each other.
After the meal a professional ballroom dance partnership performed for them and the students even learnt a few moves!
It was a great night, everyone had a ball dressing up and celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Dutch Book Week.
