Sports Report: A Busy and Successful First Term

11 december 2014

As term one of the 2014-15 sporting year draws to a wintery close, the athletes and coaches of the BISS Lions are still working hard to gain that extra second in the pool or extra point scored on the basketball court.

Shanghai Swim League

Last Saturday as well as the Christmas Fair, the Shanghai Swim League was in full swing at two venues in the city. The BISS Lions attended the Santa Splash at SCIS Pudong which proved to be a very competitive meet.

A total of 58 swimmers attended from BISS Puxi, ranging from 6-16 years. Congratulations to the Primary 8 and Under team who received second place in their age category and to Jocelyn Chok (6S) who received the 3rd place trophy for receiving a high number of points in the 9-10 age range.

The star swimmers of the day were Daniel Tafelski (Year 11) and HarVey Yuen (Year 8) who received the maximum number of points (30) available and smashed some personal best times along the way.  The day ended with BISS Puxi in second place overall.  A truly successful day for the BISS Lions swimmers.

Basketball mid-season report

The SISAC basketball season is always very hotly contested as the BISS Lions have such a pedigree of players coming through the ranks. It is very exciting to see the team’s performances develop during the pre-season training and into the regular season.  The boys’ Division 1 and Division 2 teams have been going from strength to strength, with the D1 boys unbeaten in SISAC competitive fixtures and named West Side Conference Champions, and the D2 boys only having lost one game and still have a few to go after the Christmas break.  The development of the girls D1 side has been impressive across the season. Through their hard work and a collective drive to achieve the best results possible, the team are sitting in second position in the SISAC West Side league as they go into the Christmas break.

Across the term we have had many exciting sporting experiences, with the BISS Lions competing in football, floor hockey, volleyball, rugby, netball, basketball, tennis, swimming and the Under 15 FOBISIA Games.

Just some of this terms achievements:

Under 19 SISAC D2 Rugby Champions

ACAMIS Rugby Champions

SISAC Division 1 Boys Western Conference Basketball Champions

Under 15 FOBISIA Girls Football Champions

Under 15 FOBISIA Athletics Champions
