If You Missed The IB Visual Art Exhibition

25 maart 2015

This year’s IB Visual Art exhibition private viewing was a great opportunity to see some fantastic art work from our five art students and also talk to them about their work.

Each of the five students with their favourite pieces of work.

For those who were unable to make it, we asked Rachel, Leon and Rebeca to tell us a bit about their work, what inspired them.

Rachel Shin

The general theme of my work is how individual particles come together to form a single structure. I looked into decomposition of fruits and how particles of them return to nature.  I also looked at different cells that compose our bodies, fragments of buildings such as windows forming a larger structure, and how human facial features attribute in expressing one’s emotions.

Leon Lai

I began in 2013 by exploring the theme of “Growth and Decay”. I created an installation piece of a green house. Inside, there are two aspects of nature; growth on the right and decay on the left side. The installation includes paraphernalia such as paper flowers, decayed plants that hold importance in China, soil and a rusty watering can. I developed my interest in significant Chinese objects through this studio work and the symbolism of China has been my main focus with the rest of my studio work.

Rebeca Blancas

The theme of my art evolved as I became interested in different topics throughout the two years. I began with focusing on my culture; however my attention then shifted to the self. I still incorporated people from my culture, but my main focus was on the behavior of people as I became interested in psychology. Art was for me a medium to express my thoughts and feelings as well as showing my interests.
