Year 8 in the grasslands and the desert in Inner Mongolia and Year 12 visiting Angkor Wat and working at the Starfish school.

Year 7

After a somewhat delayed flight on Sunday, both Year 7 groups made it safely to Yangshuo and are starting their activities today.

Year 8

Group 1
All was fine with the flight and we arrived safely in Hohot. We met our friendly and enthusiastic Insight guides there and they gave us lunch and took us to the beautiful grasslands which was two hours away by coach. After a traditional welcome from Mongolian horsemen, we found our yurts and got started with some activities. Pupils will be building a yurt together and working together to create wind turbines. The sun is shining and it's wonderful to see so much open space. A great start to the week!

Group 2
After a long journey we arrived at the camp site in the desert in Inner Mongolia. The weather is beautiful and the view is breath-taking. We started with some ice breakers in the desert and then pitched our tents and learned how to cook in the sand dunes.

Year 12

Group 1
Group 1 arrived at the hotel in Siem Reap on Saturday and all are well. They visited the stunning Angkor Wat on Sunday.

Group 2
Despite a delayed flight and arriving later than expected, all students woke up on Saturday in high spirits. After a hearty breakfast we travelled by bus to the local Starfish school where we were greeted by the school coordinator, Sithun. Sithun told us all about how Starfish helps families who cannot afford education and aims to keep children off the streets. Our students eagerly split into three teams and got on with painting and sketching on the walls of the school. On Sunday they were back at the school doing some teaching and then had a very interesting and thought provoking trip to the Killing Fields. Everybody is well and in great spirits!
