Year 7 hiking, rock climbing and abseiling in Yangshuo and Year 8 doing archery and Mongolian wrestling in Inner Mongolia, Year 9 camping by the Great Wall and Year 12 teaching in Cambodia.
Pupils arrived in Yangshuo last night safe and positive, despite a rather long journey for some. The weather is on our side today, the sun is shining and the sky is blue. We planned our lunches to perfection, whilst there was a short shower!
Pupils in Group 1 with Ms Selden have visited silver cave and seen some awesome rock formations and hiked amongst the lush green landscape. This evening we will all don our head torches for a walk along the winding Li river. Group 2 with Mr Hill have been having a great time rock climbing and abseiling.
Last night the pupils enjoyed a Mongolian dance and singing performance after dinner and then settled down for their first night in the yurts. We woke up to more sunshine today and pupils were split into groups to learn how to do Mongolian wrestling, participate in some team-building games, shoot some archery and do some traditional cooking. After a delicious lunch of assorted Mongolian and Chinese food, suddenly the skies opened and the rain came down. As a result, pupils played some indoor games and learnt how to write some Mongolian words while we waited for better weather - it can change very quickly here. Later we will have a hike to the local lamasery and then have a bonfire before heading for the desert tomorrow.
Whoever said it never rains in the desert is wrong! Despite the rain, we have had a wonderful day of sand sliding, camel riding and orienteering. We have arrived at our hotel and are playing some games with our tour guides before our traditional Mongolian feast! Tomorrow we will head for the grasslands.
Year 9 left this morning on their trip to Hebei. They all arrived safely in Beijing.
We arrived safely and all are well. Today we were at the Shi Men Shan outdoor base taking part in obstacle courses and team building activities and will be having a camp fire tonight. Having a great time so far and looking forward to visiting the Olympic Sailing Park tomorrow!
We drove to the northern hills and hiked to our campsite to set up camp with a view of the Great Wall!
We went to the central market this morning then had lunch and a tour of the villages that the Starfish kids come from. We then went back to the school to teach the kids there the lessons we had planned. The students were great and really got into the teaching. They taught some Korean games, some singing, origami, football and played some word games with the students.
