Music Melodies

08 december 2016

There has been an air of excitement in our Music department this week as we begin the Christmas season with all its opportunities for engagement with music. We are certainly continuing to benefit from the excellent resources in our online Juilliard Creative Classroom.

  • Music Melodies

This week Reception Cubs have reached the culmination of all their hard work learning to control their voices and develop their musical memories in their Christmas Nativity performance which is on Tuesday.

The Year 1’s have been continuing their keyboard focus and have been interested in learning about timbre through the Juilliard Core Work – “They cant take that away from me.”

Year 2 have enjoyed experimenting with the dotted rhythms and have been identifying them in Mendelssohn’s music.

Year 3’s have also been continuing work with Stravinsky’s music with a focus on repeating patterns. They have composed their own ostinato and experimented with combining two ostinati together.

In Year 4 we have been very excited to continue our Cello exploration which is drawing to a close. We can now hold our bows and produce some bowed sounds.

The Year 5’s have been continuing their focus on orchestral music as they complete their exploration of “Peter and the Wolf”.

In Year 6, students have been inspired by Holst’s “The Planets” to design their own planet and then begin to compose music inspired by their created world.
