This weeks’ fixtures unearthed some old but friendly rivalries between our British School colleagues across the city.  With all the under 19 rugby players back in full swing of training and competing, Saturday saw their first competitive SISAC fixtures against WCS and DCS.

Also playing on Saturday were the under 19 Netball players who had just one session to warm up during the week, before their first competitive matches against NAIS.  The D2 Girls Volleyball team have been busy with training and a double fixture week as part of their busy season. Please read on for a fuller picture of what transpired at these events.

The FOBISIA Games

This November, BISS Puxi will be hosting the U15 FOBISIA Games Shanghai.  Six schools from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Ho Chi Min, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Pataya will be visiting BISS Puxi to compete in four sports over three days: Football, Basketball, Athletics and Swimming.  Teams will arrive for a welcome dinner on the 18th of November before the following day’s athletics and swimming competitions.  The second and third day of competition will include the boys and girls football and basketball tournaments.  Schools are limited to a maximum number of eighteen boys and eighteen girls to compete in all four sports. This means that we will be hosting some of Asia’s top multi-sport athletes from some of the largest international schools.

Fitness for sport

It is the BISS Puxi PE and sports department to foster a love of sport in all students and to create an ethos which inspires living a healthy lifestyle.  For the last few years PE and sport staff have  been helping students live a healthier lifestyle by holding early morning training sessions for all comers.  This year, the take up has been huge with two sessions available and in excess of fifty students engaged. The circuit style activities have a focus on sport specific exercises to reduce injuries during a competitive season but most importantly, help build fitness and alertness of the attendees. After all "the more they burn, the better they learn".

Under 19 Rugby Report (Mr Fudge)

It was a busy week of rugby for the U19s this week, which began with a pre-season ‘friendly’ against SAS Puxi.  This was excellent performance in a match of 4 10 minute quarters and lots of tries scored to record a comfortable win. The SISAC season began on Saturday with an early start as the team travelled to SAS Pudong to play Dulwich and Wellington.  The game against Dulwich highlighted what a competitive season it will be with the boys recording a narrow defeat with handling errors leading to their downfall.  This was followed by an outstanding performance to run in 10 tries against Wellington.  The boys will again work hard in training this week as they prepare for SISAC and ACAMIS finals that will soon be upon us.

Under 19 Netball

The under 19 Netball girls were over to NAIS Pudong for their first competitive fixtures of the season.  With only one training session under their belt in the lead up, the girls went with a mind-set of development.  Coach Ms Sharrock took a lot from the games in terms of selection for SISAC and ACAMIS in the coming months and with a few weeks until the next competitive fixture they have plenty of targets to work on.

Division 2 Volleyball

The Division 2 Volleyball Girls had two games last week. One against the strong D2 girls of SAS followed by an U19 team from DSS (The German School) .  Game one, against SAS resulted in competitive games with SAS winning by a small advantage in two sets.  The DSS Game resulted in the same result.  Overall, coach Miss Bregazzi-Nevin is very pleased with the way in which this development squad are progressing.  Unlike some of their competitors they are working on a three touch return with every rally which leads them well into being a strong attacking and defending team in the future.

The Division 1 Volleyball teams have a busy week this week with fixtures against some of Puxi’s best teams whilst the new Division 1 tennis team have their first fixture. Good luck to all those athletes in action this week!
