Meanwhile, in Year 3, students have been studying jazz and improvisation and have greatly enjoyed the Juilliard resources on how to construct a solo out of a limited series of notes. They will shortly be moving on to applying this to the trumpet. Year 5 students are enjoying learning about Music technology and have been fascinated by creating their own samples and making a drum beat out of them. They have been listening to Daft Punk and this has inspired some of the students to want to be electronic music producers when they grow up! Year 6 students have started to learn the flute and are so far making great progress in making their first sounds.
In the secondary school, Year 9 are learning about music that tells a story and are currently studying musicals and opera. This week’s case study was La Boheme, and students were fascinated by Puccini’s intricate plot and dramatic orchestrations.
