The British International School Shanghai’s ‘Best Ever’ IGCSE Results

25 augustus 2017

We are delighted to congratulate our students on their outstanding GCSE and IGCSE results this year, in what is our best ever set of results!

  • gcse

For the 14th year running, our students' results have exceeded the UK average for GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education) and IGCSEs (International GCSE) with 94% of students achieving 5A*- C grades, compared to the UK average of 66.3%.

Remarkably, an unprecedented 59% of all our students achieved A*- A results, compared to 20% in the UK. A superb 80% of our Mathematics students achieved A* - A, whilst English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Geography and History all reported between 57 and 70% A* - A results. Languages in particular excelled, with 100% of students studying Spanish, German, Dutch and Chinese achieving A* - A.

Our students continue to significantly outperform UK national averages:

  • 59% of all GCSE and IGCSE grades achieved by the British International School Shanghai, Puxi Campus students were at the highest levels of A* or A, 39% above the 2017 UK average.
  • The percentage of our students achieving 5A* - C grades, including English and Maths at GCSE and IGCSE has risen from 91% to 94%, significantly outperforming last year’s school averages and 28% higher than the UK.

We are delighted to celebrate such outstanding achievements by our students. Our school is renowned for its well established academic excellence and we are always very ambitious for our students. So to have produced our best ever results this year is a truly remarkable accomplishment. These superb results stand as a testimony to the hard work of our inspirational teachers and dedicated students, along with the wonderful support of their parents and families, and we join them all in celebrating their success.

IGCSE courses require consistent dedication and commitment and once again our students have demonstrated these characteristics in abundance. It should be noted that alongside this academic excellence, the students have also managed to contribute highly to school life outside of the classroom; being members of our highly competitive sports teams; performing on stage in our wonderful Drama productions; completing the International Award or presenting at the Model United Nations. This ambitious approach to all aspects of learning and school life is an excellent grounding for the next phase in their education: the IB Diploma Programme.

So many students achieved so highly, meeting or exceeding their ambitious targets, and each one should be proud of their personal achievements. It is impossible to name them all but of significant mention are the students below who scored top grades across the curriculum;

11A* Straight  – Charlotte Bennink, Nicholas Ahrens
