One of the number songs we practised this week was the ‘Zoom zoom zoom! We’re going to the moon song’. As you can imagine this has sparked a real interest in rockets. We have decided to follow the childrens learning and theme our week around the story ‘Whatever Next’ By Jill Murphy. This story tells of a bear who dreams of going to the moon so he finds a box to make a rocket and blasts of for a picnic with a very special owl.

Below is a link to the animation of the book on youtube.

Following on from our wonderful maths week the children will create their very own shape rockets using a range of 2D shapes. We will be encouraging the children to be using lots of mathematical language such as side and corner.

Key Vocabulary: circle, square, rectangle, triangle, oval, side, corner.

The children will create their own rockets using a range of junk modelling equipment. What will it look like to them? What resources will work best? The children will need to plan what they need and change their strategies as problems arise. We hope to see lots of team work going on throughout the week.

Key Vocabulary:  plan, choose, model, ‘what will you choose?’

We will continue to focus on technology throughout the week.We hope to see the children begin to document some of their own learning, asking for ipads and cameras to capture their own experiences.
