Week Beginning 16 November 2015

Enjoy the short break, hope you have a chance to relax before we start the final few weeks before Christmas.

MESSAGES

  • Book Fair:  This year the Book Fair, where you can buy books, will take place in school from Thursday 19-Saturday 21 November. 
  • Uniform sale:  We will be having a Used Uniform Stall as part of the upcoming PTA Christmas Fair being held in school on Saturday 28 November.  Please bring any clean, good quality, old uniforms to the Primary Reception over the next few weeks.  Y12 will be running the stall with the support of parents and proceeds will go towards their fundraising.

LEARNING THEME:  OUR CHRISTMAS PRODUCTION

With Christmas fast approaching we will be introducing the story of our Christmas play to the children. I don’t want to give away the story yet as we hope you will all be able to come and see the play on Dec 8th in Stage 1. More details will be in Communication Books. We will be thinking alot about snow and wondering how we can build snow men without it ?

COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE

We will be doing lots of singing this week and the children will also be practising their speaking and listening as we learn the lines for the play, paying attention to each other so we know what to do and when. We will be speaking loudly and clearly so the audience can hear us!

Begins to build a repertoire of songs and dances.

EXPRESSIVE ARTS & DESIGN

We will be starting to make the props for our performance and we will concentrate on fine motor skills, using scissors effectively and encouraging the children to choose a variety of media to make our props twinkle! We will be making snowflakes and decorations.

Key Vocabulary: snowflake, decoration, cut, snip, fold,  shape, glitter, sparkle.

Development Outcomes:

Manipulates materials to achieve a planned effect.

PHONICS

Pufferfish- We will practise applying all the phase 3 sounds learned so far and we will learn new sound oa, as in boat.

Sharks- The Shark group will continue to learn the sounds from Phase 3.  They will learn y, z and zz.  They will also practise all letters/sounds learnt so far, as well as learn an alphabet song.  They will learn to write the words no, go, the, and, to and I.        

Octopus - We will learn new sounds j, v , w and review double ss, ll and ff.

Jellyfish - We have worked really hard blending our sounds to read CVC words. This week we will introduce the sounds l, j ,v. We will also become confident reading the phase 2 tricky words: go, to, the, I and no.

Starfish- We will be learning the sounds;  u and r and using them to build CVC words, for example ran, cut.

MATHS

We will be consolidating our counting skills in our daily number time and focusing on being able to say one less than a given number. The children will be working in practical ways, counting objects and taking one away to find one less.

Key Vocabulary: count, number, less, take way, left

Development Outcomes:

Finds one less from a group of up to five objects, then ten objects.

In practical activities and discussion, beginning to use the vocabulary involved in adding and subtracting.

To count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number.

MANDARIN

This week we will introduce weather. Our big question is ‘Jin Tian Shi Shen Me Tian Qi (how’s  the weather today)?’ We will  share a song which is called ‘Jin tian tian qi hao bu hao’

Key Words: sunny  晴天 (qing tian)   rainy  雨天(yu tian)    cloudy  多云 (duo yun)   windy 刮风(guafeng)

DUTCH

Het is feest!  Jules is jarig en wordt 5.  We vieren Jules in de klas en organiseren een feestje voor hem.  Wat hoort er allemaal bij verjaardag? We maken een kroon voor Jules en zingen een passend lied voor hem.
