In Literacy this week, we will be looking at the features of letter writing. We will read a variety of different letters and discuss new vocabulary. We will then use what we have learnt to help us write our own letters to Santa Claus. We will also be practising using capital letters when writing the name of a person or place.

Puffer Fish- This week the Puffer Fish group will be focusing on the alternative spelling of n. We will be learning that sometimes you cannot hear the k sound when placed at the beginning of a word. We will be practising the words knit, knight, knew, knife and knock.

Star Fish and Jelly Fish- Over the next two weeks we will review the sounds and key words covered this term through fun games and activities.

Octopus and Stingray- We will be recapping the sounds air ure oi ai. We will be focusing on both writing these sounds and reading them within words.  See how many times you can spot these sounds when reading at home. We will also be reviewing the tricky words hair  cure  boil  train,  her,  me, my.

Sharks- This week the Sharks will be looking at the ea sound, in words such as  treat, meat, steam and sea.

This week the children will be building on their knowledge of measuring – focusing on capacity and volume.  The children will learn terms such as full, empty, more than, less than and half full as well as having opportunities to measure and estimate in both standard and non-standard units and record what they have found out.  They will get to measure out their own magic potions and end the week with a problem solving task.

This week in themed learning we will be exploring the names and properties of materials. We will be exploring the differences between materials and the things that they can do. We will see if materials are waterproof or not and why not every  material makes a good raincoat! Can you find things around your house made from different materials? What are they used for? Why do you think this material is good for that job?

Literacy – Letter writing, dear, to, from, address, North Pole, Santa Claus, capital letters.

Maths – Capacity, measuring, liquid, empty, half full, full, ml, l, measuring jug, problem solving, more than, less than, estimate.

Themed Learning – materials, raincoat, waterproof, rain, properties, exploring, North Pole.
