Week Beginning 11 January 2016

ECA/BISCAP/BISSLIONS Swimming Term 2: will start the week commencing 11 January.

  • Uniform:  Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies.  They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions.  Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.

In Literacy this week, the children will be continuing to build on their knowledge of non-fiction. They will be looking at examples of writing on dinosaurs and using this as a springboard to create their own ideas for subtitles and questions they might want to answer.

This week we will be consolidating and extending the children’s knowledge and understanding of column addition and subtraction. The children will be adding 2 and 3 digit numbers to a hundred number i.e. 268 + 35 = and 345 + 215=. They will be looking at methods for carrying. They will also be subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers from a hundred number i.e. 457 – 214 =, with some examples borrowing from the tens and hundred i.e. 277 – 118 = or 707 – 149 =.

This week, the children will be thinking about what they already know about dinosaurs and then challenged to ask questions, which will extend their knowledge. We will be creating timelines with the children to help them answer the questions: How long did dinosaurs live on Earth? When did dinosaurs live? The children will be working in teams to present the information they have found out and place it in the correct chronological order.

As part of our new start to the term, the children this week will be revisiting the school rules on health and safety, basic emergency aid procedures and where to get help inside and outside of the classroom.

Literacy – non-chronological, title, heading, sub-title, sub-heading, paragraph, key word, glossary, contents page, index, diagram, photograph, label, caption

Maths– column, addition, add, altogether, subtract, subtraction, difference, more, less than

Themed Learning – timeline, chronology, before, after, Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous, myth, fact, compare, contrast

Koken, bakken, braden...
