Week Beginning 11 April 2016

Now the weather is getting warmer, please could you encourage your child to bring in a hat and also a water bottle so that they remain well hydrated during the day.

TERM 3 ECA/BISCAP/BISS Lions Swimming will start on Monday 11 April.


In Literacy the children will continue with the Science Fiction unit. They will continue to add vocabulary to their stories, and look a range of science fiction texts, picking out key vocabulary and using ideas from authors to extend their own. The children will be up-levelling their work by discussing improvements that could be made. The children will learn more about the redrafting process and the importance of improving their written work.


In Maths the children will be comparing imperial and metric units of measurement. They will also recap on how to convert units of measurement involving weight, length and volume. We will also introduce how to convert units of time by tackling a range of problem solving activities.



This week we will continue with our knowledge harvest for our Space topic. We will also complete our question grids to help lead our learning for the rest of the term. If the weather is fair we will carry out a investigation using sun dials. We will explore the relationship between the Sun and the Earth and how we can use this to tell time. This will also link to our Maths lessons this week.

We werken verder aan het thema ‘Dit was het nieuws’. De Razende Reporters van SDS zullen sportwedstrijden verslaan, een podcast maken en uiteraard verder werken aan het Dagblad van SDS.

De volgende woorden staan deze week centraal: verslaggeven, de verslaggever, de verslaggeving, het artikel, de rubriek, de podcast, de reporter, de reportage, de correspondent.

Bi(e)bbezoek en Estafette

Denk aan het meenemen van de bi(e)bboeken op maandag (Year 3, 5 en 6) en dinsdag (Year 4). Estafette doen we op maandag (Year 3, 5 en 6) en donderdag (Year 4).

Year 5 French - Miss Rae

Next week in French we will be begin to design our own outfits. Can we make them fashionable, cool, trendy? Can we describe, in French our outfits?

Homework this week is to unscramble the words and find the missing item of clothing.
