Learn in a fun environment

A great opportunity for children aged 4 to 16 to make new friends and improve English through STEAM, arts and sports from 5 to 23 July. Open to all nationalities and both BISS Puxi students and students from other schools.

Firstly, who is Summer School for?

We would like to invite your child to participate in this year’s BISS Summer School. Summer school is great for all students. It's an exciting, engaging and educational experience, this year centred around two of the most popular children's books. These will provide the backdrop to a great mix of learning activites in English, STEAM, Performing Arts and Sport.

The learning activities will be based on a theme and this year we’ll be celebrating the works of the very ‘best of British’ authors.

Younger learners will explore the world of Julia Donaldson's ‘Stick Man’, while the students in Years 3 to 8 will learn about ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ by Roald Dahl. The afternoon activities provide an environment for children to socialise and develop confidence in a wide range of areas from sport through to art and craft, film-making to discussions about the environment.

What happens at Summer School?

On Monday the 5 July, all students will meet in the Secondary Sports Hall. Our Summer School teachers will be there to greet them, and conduct them to their classes. All students will be assessed on Monday morning to ascertain their starting level, and to ensure that they are placed in the best learning environment for their ability.

All students will receive their class schedules on Monday during their day with us, as well as a menu to take home. We will communicate with parents using a communication book monitoring reading and short language orientated homework activities related to study during the day’s proceedings.

What does a typical day look like at Summer School?

What equipment do students need to bring?

Students do not need to wear school uniform, but should be dressed in clothes suitable for both classroom activities and activities outside the classroom. A hat for outdoor activities is essential.

For the duration of the programme, students will need:

  • Appropriate sports clothes with them every day
  • Sports shoes, t-shirts, extra socks, shorts, hat, and sunscreen
