Week Beginning 13 February 2017

  • Please note that there will be no ECAs on Tuesday 21 or Thursday 23 February due to Parent Teacher Conferences.  BISCAP and Swimming will not be affected.
  • Raincoat and Cold Weather- Please ensure that your child brings a raincoat to school for the wet weather and a coat now that the temperature has dropped.
  • Swimming - Please be aware that the days are getting colder and wetter so please dress your child accordingly.  On swimming days girls may wear dark leggings and matching dark socks instead of tights to make it easier for them to get dressed.  A warm hat is also recommended.

In Literacy the children will be studying the book The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson. They will be writing postcards from the snail or the whale from the different places they visit in the book. Whilst writing the postcards they will focus on ensuring they use apostrophes for contracted words such as didn’t or can’t.

Contractions, didn’t, can’t, isn’t, aren’t

The children will be learning to recall their times tables at speed. They will be playing several fun games and singing songs to help learn multiplication facts. You could help at home by ensuring that your child is able to recall at least their 2, 5 and 10’s times table.

The children will be learning how to use an atlas. They will track the journey made by the snail and the whale in Julia Donaldson’s book and use the atlas to find out more information about the places they visited.
