  • Homework for the next two weeks is optional due to the long weekend.
  • Please continue to support our Giving Tree bag sales to donate at the end of November. If you would like to buy any more, please take your money and reply slip to the uniform shop. If you need a letter, please contact your teacher and they will pass one on for you from the charity co-ordinator.
  • All this week children will be selling Lego brick accessories during break and lunch times. The price list is in children’s communication book and these sales will support our fundraising for Nepal.
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  


This week the children will be completing their Fantasy Stories by writing their resolution. They have been describing some weird and wonderful characters, settings and plots using their very creative imaginations. Our focus is to include some direct speech and use expanded noun phrases within the writing to make it exciting for the reader. They will be given the opportunity to up-level these stories and proof-read before sharing them with their class in a story-time session!

In maths this week, children will be learning about fractions and the vocabulary associated with them. They will be finding out about equivalent fractions and how to use multiplication and division to recognise which are equivalent. The children will also be looking at finding fractions of an amount and comparing fractions based on their size, using division to support their understanding. We will talk about how to compare fraction sizes and look at pictures and diagrams to support this learning.

The students of Year 4 will continue to take on the roles of architects and electricians as they are challenged to design and create a model apartment with light bulbs, a doorbell and switches to operate them.

This week the children will be given an opportunity to publish their own work. They will be continuing with typing up and editing their fantasy stories and have the opportunity to include pictures and illustrations, re-sizing and adjusting them to fit the screen. The children will need to be able to open, save and  edit their work, changing font, font size and colour.

De leerlingen gaan deze week verder in op het stellen van open en gesloten vragen. We oefenen het interview met opa of oma in tweetallen en viertallen in de klas. De leerlingen filmen elkaar en luisteren kritisch naar elkaars interviews.

Ook verdiepen we ons in beeldspraak. Denk daarbij aan zegswijzen en spreekwoorden als: het gezin is de hoeksteen van de samenleving, het komt in de beste families voor, een aardje naar je vaartje hebben, het zit in je genen, het bloed kruipt waar het niet gaan kan, het zit in de familie, je eigen vlees en bloed en de appel valt niet ver van de boom. We spelen Taboe en ‘Who’s the man’ met deze spreekwoorden.
