  • Year 4 trip to Car Museum – Friday 28 October

  • Homework will be given out on Wednesdays and expected in on Mondays. 
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy on our website.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If your child would be swimming, they should bring their normal PE kit.


Next week the children will start looking at advertisements, and how language can be used to sell a product.  They will learn a range of sentence types that can be used to engage and the reader to sell a product, spend time reading and watching a range of car adverts from the past to the present, and label the features of an advert.  This week’s work will prepare them to write their own persuasive text the following week

In Maths we will be learning about 2D shapes and symmetry. We will be discussing the properties of 2D shapes and learning about key vocabulary including regular shapes, irregular shapes and polygons. Using lines of symmetry, we will identify shapes and pictures that are symmetrical, along with discussing how a property of a shape can affect symmetry.

The students will continue  to learn about electrical circuits focusing on the difference of series and parallel circuits and reflect on why both were invented. We will also consider the inventions of toys through the decades of the 20th century to now and question the positive and negative developments in entertainment for the young.

The students will continue developing their typing skills using ‘Dance Mat’. We encourage them to also do this at home if they wish.

Van Reisbureau naar Vroeger...

De leerlingen hebben hun vakantie-ervaringen verwerkt in prachtige reisverslagen met een imaginaire twist aan het einde, het reisverhaal. We maken deze verhalen af, evalueren het thema en ronden daarmee het thema Reisbureau SDS af.

Het is kinderboekenweek in Nederland en het thema van dit jaar is: ‘Voor altijd jong!’ waarin opa’s en oma’s centraal staan. In KS2 werken we daarom de komende weken rond het thema: Vroeger was alles ... We poetsen onze interviewtechnieken op ter voorbereiding van een interview met opa of oma over Skype; onderzoeken wat opa’s en oma’s vroeger deden (want hoe is het leven zonder internet en iPad?), schrijven verhalen en denken na over onze families.

This week the students will be revise colours learnt in Y3 (azul, rojo, rosa, verde, amarillo, marrón, naranja) and to teach three new colours (blanco, negro, violeta) as well as claro (light) and oscuro (dark), both of which come after the colours they describe.  Sing the ¿De qué color es? Song.
For homework students can make a colour wheel and label the colours.

This week we shall work on planning a party. We shall learn the names of different foods and express our likes and dislikes. We will also practice asking politely and thanking people. The children will use computers to help them plan their ideas and find typical French food.

Im Deutschunterricht diese Woche haben wir uns mit den Nomen beschäftigt, und zwar mit der Einzahl und Mehrzahl der Sachen um uns herum. Dieses ist ein umfangreiches Thema und wir werden uns auch nächste Woche darauf konzentrieren. Dann wird auch verstärkt auf die Grossschreibung der Nomen Wert gelegt.
Zu Hause sollen die Kinder (mit Ihrer Hilfe) die Gegenstände in der Turnhalle in der Einzahl udn Mehrzahl in ihren Booklets schreiben (S. 10). Ihre Hilfe ist sehr willkommen, da nicht alle Kinder die Gegenstände beim Namen kennen.

La semana que viene vamos a trabajar las conjugaciones verbales (presente y pasado) de los verbos regulares. No hay deberes porque estamos acabando la presentación sobre nuestras vacaciones.
