Week Beginning 26 March 2018

MESSAGES

  • International week:  On Monday 26 March at 8.25am you are invited to join us for International Week singing in the Primary playground.  On Thursday 29 March at 9:00am the International Parade will take place in the Primary front playground. Students are invited to wear clothing that represents their cultural heritage. If you are able, please come dressed in your national costume and cheer on. Our Chatterbox coffee shop will be open for parents to enjoy a beverage or snack.
  • The Year 4 Showcase will take place 13th April at 9:00.

LITERACY

This week in Literacy, our focus will be International Week. The children will be thinking about their own countries as well as the countries which are represented within their classrooms. The children will be researching and presenting different features about the countries, celebrating the diversity of the world.

MATHS

Next week in Maths, Year 4 will use some data handling techniques to present information about their own countries and the countries of others. This Maths learning will contribute towards the information posters which the children will be creating about their countries.

THEMED LEARNING

This week we will be focusing on International week. Alongside the activities already prgansied we will be looking at where the children come from and using our skills we learned last week to present this information. Geography skills will be tested by looking at different features of our world.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

We have begun to delve into the world of computing coding and programming, and will continue this for the next few weeks. The students will learn how to control and move objects, giving the computer instructions for the objects to follow.

PSHCE

We will continue with the PSHCE / well-being program and the  core value of collaboration.  This is the ability to work constructively with others, and children will learn to negotiate, to resolve conflicts, and to support agreed solutions. In doing so, they will strengthen their sense of teamwork and realise where they lack certain skills; which they can later hone.

DUTCH

We zijn inmiddels gestart met het thema ‘Wetenschap en Techniek’. We doen proefjes, schrijven onze voorspellingen op papier en doen onderzoek naar de achtergronden. Volgende week staan constructies centraal. Hoe kan het dat een brug niet inzakt in het midden, hoe kan het dat wolkenkrabbers niet omvallen en hoe maak je twee verschillende materialen aan elkaar vast? We gaan het allemaal ontdekken en we maken notitites van onze bevindingen. Ook gaan we aan de slag met werkbeschrijvingen en werktekeningen.

Groep 6: extra aandacht voor kilowoorden (je hoort /ie en je schrijft i, bijv. materiaal)/routewoorden (route, journaal: ik hoor een oe maar schrijf een ou) en kommawoorden.

Groep 7: extra aandacht voor tremawoorden/voegwoorden en het lijdend voorwerp.

Year 3 / 4 French – Ms De Borger

This week`s homework will be decorating your French Easter egg for the treasure hunt.  Hide a French Easter tradition or French vocabulary related to Easter inside!

Next week we will celebrate Pâques (Easter).  We will look into to some typical French Easter celebrations and will go on an Easter egg hunt.  There will be no French class next Friday because of the school break.  Have a great holiday! Joyeux Pâques!

For homework, students are expected to complete activities on the Homework Grid and bring in to share with the class. 

Students will continue to discover the traditions of Easter in Spain and learn about all the celebrations in Holy Week.

Next week, students will work on a project at The Da Vinci Centre: Design an outfit using recycling materials. This will provide an opportunity to expand the vocabulary and talk about patterns and sizes in Spanish.
