Week Beginning 4 December 2017


  • Wednesday 13th December - Festive Frock Day and Class Parties.
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.


This week, we will begin to look at Greek myths and legends. We will start by reading the story of ‘Medusa’ and discussing the key features of the tale, including talking about Medusa herself. We will reinforce our knowledge here by reading ‘Theseus and the Minotaur’ and looking at the creature of the Minotaur. Following this, we will be creating our own beasts and rewriting the myth of Theseus, but changing the Minotaur to our own creatures.

Next week in Maths, the children will be focusing on addition and subtraction. They will be revising written methods of calculation as well as applying a range of strategies to develop their mental math capabilities. Furthermore, the children will work on two-step word problems and challenge themselves with a range of problem solving based activities.

Next week we’ll be starting our new topic: Ancient Greece! We’ll begin by looking at a timeline of key events and the geography of the area. We’ll the move onto looking at an important part of Ancient Greek life: The Olympics!

Wij hebben deze week weer  SDS Sinterklaasjournaaltjes gekeken. De Sint hebben we niet gezien in de filmpjes maar de (wo)men in black  zijn er wel  helemaal klaar voor. De leerlingen zijn er ook klaar  voor, ze hebben veel geknutseld, gekleurd en gefilmd. Ook mochten de leerlingen de schoen zetten en hebben ze heerlijke pepernoten gebakken. In het laatste journaal hebben we gezien dat de Sint , Juf Chris heeft verteld dat hij nu toch echt gaat komen op vrijdag 1 December. Spannend allemaal!!

Nog meer belangrijk nieuws: Juf Chris is weer terug, de afgelopen 2 dagen is ze alweer in de klas geweest en vanaf maandag is ze weer full time aanwezig.

Next week we will open our French restaurants.  We will present our menu to our classmates, serving our dishes and paying in euro`s.  What is your favourite dish in each restaurant?

This weekend’s homework is to create a Spanish Christmas card with the Christmas vocabulary we are learning. 

Next week in class, We will look at the traditions of a Spanish Christmas and get ready for some seasonal cooking.
