Week Beginning 6 November 2017

  • Remembrance Day - On Thursday 9 November, we will be marking Remembrance Day in school. This will be marked at 8.30am, with students, staff and parents on the playground.
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • Each year, Giving Tree aims to provide children in need with a gift bag full of winter clothes and school supplies.  Please support this worthwhile cause.

This week, the children will continue to write explanation texts. To link with our Romans topic, they will be thinking about the Roman Army and inventing something which would help them in a battle. The challenge will then be to explain how this would work to others, before planning how to write about it in an explanation!

Explanation, purpose, non fiction, causal, connective, introduction, conclusion

This week in Maths, we will be looking at angles and directions. Beginning with the simple directionals of compass points, the children will attempt to direct each other to various points around school. The children will then begin to think about how directions are linked to angles of turn. Finally, we will begin to look at co-ordinates.

North, south, east, west, directions, compass, co-ordinate

This week in Themed Learning we will begin to think about how and when the Romans came to Britain. We will discuss the story of the Roman Invasion, the key figures involved and how far they invaded, with a particular focus on Hadrian’s Wall.

Invasion, invade, legion, Julius Caesar, Hadrian

The children will be continuing on from their Da Vinci Centre work by using the ‘Green Screen’ app to create a video outlining their projects, and the different successes of them.
