This week we will begin writing our own Science Fiction stories incorporating our creative planet dioramas to use as a setting. With a focus on different beginnings and endings in fiction writing, the children will create interesting stories about journeys of discovery. Additionally, by thinking carefully about the purpose of dialogue, they will develop their characters more effectively.

This week we shall be reviewing our knowledge of shape and angles. The children will apply their understanding of angles to the classification of common regular and irregular 2D shapes. They will learn the properties of quadrilaterals and consider how to find missing angles and sides in geometric drawings. They will learn to construct simple shapes using a ruler and a protractor.

This week the children will focus on being able to name, identify and also explain the different forces. The children will also carry out their own investigation to help them to understand the effects of forces on flight. In addition to this the children will have time to reflect on last week’s visit to the Science and technology museum and begin to edit the material saved on to their iPads.

This week our mindstorm robots will be coming to life as the children will continue to build them, focusing on the uses of each sensor. After our visit to the robotics exhibition during the Year 5 trip we now have a better idea of what we could use them for. Using the supersonic sensor we will explore how to collect date and make the robot move.

This week the children will be discussing safe play and choices on the playground. We will be discussing how to resolve conflict peacefully and will continue to take the children outside to play some new playground games. This will encourage the children to take turns and socialise in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Next week, the children will be learning the  vocabulary for school subjects, revising phrases for giving opinions and will learn how to correctly pronounce words that start with ‘h’ in Spanish.

Year 5 / 6 French – Ms De Borger

This week we will fly to our first destination on our world trip:  Belgium!  Ms De Borger will present some Belgian highlights and foods to the class.   Did you know the Belgians are the true inventors of the `French fries`? 
This week`s homework will be collecting pictures of  the highlights in your home country that you want to present in your French tourist flyer.

De leerlingen van Y5 en 6 werken aan hun fantasieverhaal bij een kunstwerk. De resultaten krijgen een plaatsje in ons Muurseum en worden afgedrukt in ‘Het Grote SDS Muurseum Voorleesboek’.
