Week Beginning 13 February 2017


  • Please note that there will be no ECAs on Tuesday 21 or Thursday 23 February due to Parent Teacher Conferences.  BISCAP and Swimming will not be affected.
  • Uniform:  Now that it is colder in the mornings please remember that children should not be wearing leggings, boots or hoodies.  They should be wearing school jumpers/cardigans/fleeces and NOT non-uniform versions.  Information is available on the Primary Parent Handbook on the website.


This week we will be publishing our finalised historical diary entries. We will then spend some time developing our comprehension skills in reading. The main focus will be how to use the text to justify our answers and opinions. We will be analysing quotes from the text and thinking carefully about what the language is telling us and what we can infer from the quote. Answering questions with detailed answers will be our target goal for the week.

This week we shall be reviewing the objectives covered in Year 5 so far, with a focus on applying skills to word  problems and in unfamiliar situations. There will be a particular emphasis on area and perimeter, where the children will become familiar with simple formulae and work with composite rectilinear shapes.

This week the focus will be on the period 206BCE – 220AD, known as the Han dynasty. The children will find out about what life was like and how it compares to life today. The children will focus on what social class means and how this influenced the lifestyle of the people. The children will use their knowledge to explain how the social pyramid was structured. Finally they will try to extend their thinking by considering how this struture relates to modern life.

This week the children are continuing our coding unit. They will practise setting parameters for how objects move by assigning values in code or writing code to detect the movements of other objects. They will combine these concepts with conditions and variables in their code to create a golf game.

This week the children will be discussing how to tackle problems that they may encounter in the playground. The children will discuss how to identify problems and will think of strategies to help solve them. We will discuss and share different scenarios that may arise and will share suggestions about how to solve problems peacefully.

Year 5  Spanish -  Ms Watson

The students will return to the topic of food to revise preferences and explain why they like certain food. This will lead into a units about The Hungry Caterpillar and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Homework will be drawing a comic strip of the hungry caterpillar and labelling the food, days and numbers.

This week’s homework will be revising the days of the week and the school subjects by completing the class time table in French. 

Year 5 / 6 French – Ms De Borger

The year 5 students have done a wonderful job presenting our school to our Vietnamese pen pals.  We will continue our topic ‘mon école ‘ by learning class related vocabulary, naming the objects in our school bag in French and revising possessive objectives.

This week’s homework will be revising the days of the week and the school subjects by completing the class time table in French. 

Year 5/6 French - Ms Rae    

In French next week,  we will be continuing with learning our numbers up to 60. We will be using our Maths brains to add/ subtract/ multiple and divide different calculations and then say the calculations in French to a partner.  We will also learn words for school subjects and learn about French Primary school timetables.
Homework this week is to log on to ‘’Bonjour les amis!’website. Complete the activities and tasks in section 2- Lucie dans sa nouvelle école, this will help you in lessons next week.

La semaine prochaine, nous continuerons notre travail sur la rédaction en utilisant les temps du passé. Pour la mardi prochain, il faut faire l’exercice de repérage de temps (passé simple et imparfait) donnée en classe.

Unser neues Thema ist „Die Wikinger“. Wir werden uns über das Leben der Wikinger unterhalten und die Kinder werden lernen, treffende Adjektive zu nutzen, um die Personen möglichst genau zu beschreiben. Im Unterricht diese Woche haben die Schüler über die Wikingerzeit gelesen und zu dem Text W-Fragen gesammelt und beantwortet. Zu Hause sollten sie ihre eigenen W-Fragen formulieren, und zwar zum Text „Das Thing“ im Booklet.

La semana que viene, seguiremos trabajando las reglas de acentuación e introduciremos los cuantificadores. Para deberes, deben completar una redacción sobre las instalaciones de la escuela.


Thema Blijspel

De afname van de Cito-toetsen is begonnen. Deze week gaan we verder met de toetsen begrijpend lezen en woordenschat.

Y3 en 4 zullen zich deze week verdiepen in hun rol in het zelfgeschreven toneelstuk van Karel en Elegast. Ze krijgen een voorbeeldscript, maar moeten die zelf verder aanpassen, uitbreiden en oefenen.

Y5 en 6 werken verder aan hun rollen in Reynaert de Vos. Ook moeten ze zich verdiepen in het aanbrengen van regieaanwijzingen in het script.
