Week Beginning 6 November 2017

  • Remembrance Day - On Thursday 9 November, we will be marking Remembrance Day in school. This will be marked at 8.30am, with students, staff and parents on the playground.
  • Remembrance Day In the build-up to this event, we will be selling poppies to raise money for the Royal British Legion. Student Councillors will be selling these on the playground at break times for the next week, starting from tomorrow. If you could please explain this to students and share information with room parents, that would be great. We would like to ask for a minimum donation of 10 RMB for a poppy.
  • Please ensure that your child has the correct school uniform. In particular please ensure your child is wearing black shoes. Girls should wear plain white socks and boys should wear black or grey socks. You can review the school’s uniform policy here.
  • Please remember to send in and label your child’s snack box and water bottle, as well as a hat during the hot weather.
  • If for any reason your child is unable to take part in PE, please send a signed message in your child’s communication book.  Your child still needs to bring in their PE kit to enable them to participate as a coach, an official or to give feedback.  If your child would be swimming, they should bring their normal PE kit.
  • We will be having an author visit on Tuesday during assembly time!
  • There is no school on Friday as it is a teacher training day.

This week the children will be preparing for the Nord Anglia creative writing competition.  We will cover:

Developing written powers of expression

Writing clearly, accurately and coherently, adapting the language and style for the audience, context and purpose

Developing editing and proof reading skills

This year’s theme is “Down in the Dumps”. For example, students could write about where rubbish goes/where it should go, written from the perspective of a garbage collector or a piece of garbage making its way through the waste cycle. Another way students could write about this topic is from an emotional perspective. For example, “down in the dumps” could reflect feelings of disillusionment with their immediate environment, neighbourhood, city, or the world.  Word count – 500 words

Creative, writing, vocabulary, adventurous language

The children will learn about multiplication this week.  They will learn strategies and apply their methods in a measure context.  There will be a focus on checking work – rounding will help them do this.  This week, we will have a quick mental maths test on Thursday – please practice times tables in preparation for these.

Multiply, lots of, groups of, rounding

This week, we will be creating amazing artwork to go alongside out writing for the competition mentioned above.  Children will use their imaginations and be as a creative as possible! Fingers crossed the work gets published in the anthology.

Creativity, artwork, imagination

This week, we will continue learning coding skills using the program: Python.  The children will work in groups and try and ‘debug’ each other’s work.

Debug, computational thinking, program, code

In PSHCE this term we will be looking at teamwork and collaborative working.  We will focus further on fostering new relationships, creating rules and expectations for the group and how to work together successfully.

Trust, bravery, commitment

Spelling werken we verder in Blok2.
