Maryke completed a BEd degree in Primary School Education in South Africa in 1995 and she went into teaching, where she took up the roles of 1st Team Hockey coach and Girl’s hostel student supervisor. In 2000 Maryke moved abroad to the United Kingdom, taking on various educational roles in order to challenge herself and to learn many perspectives, so to serve the schooling community with the best experience and knowledge. Her first UK teaching experience was as a Peripatetic Teacher for special needs children in Southwark-London, where she travelled across the borough, supporting and training parents and teaching staff who work with children who were diagnosed with autism. Her next position was as a class teacher at a multi-cultural school in Hillingdon, where she taught across Key Stage 1 for the next seven years. She then completed her Qualified Teacher Status and progressed to Year Team Leader and Head of PE, before taking time off teaching when she had her two children.
