Ian has a BSc in Sports Equipment Design from Salford University and a PGCE in Primary Education from Northumbria University. He has recently completed his MA in International Education from King College London, in which he was awarded Merit. The focus of his dissertation was ‘The implementation and application of Maker Spaces within Asian international schools’ - an area in which he has a great deal of knowledge and passion, which shines through in his role as Primary STEAM Coordinator and Whole School Lead for the NAE-MIT Collaboration. In his time at BISS, Ian has designed Mathematics trails for inclusion in international competitions, set up and coached indoor hockey, mentored BISS Puxi’s first ever FIRST LEGO League team and provided our students with opportunities to showcase their hard work to family, friends and local dignitaries at BISS Puxi’s infamous ComicCon events.
Ian’s enthusiasm for teaching is paralleled with his enthusiasm for exploration. You will often find him either up a mountain or in the jungle walking and kayaking his way through the wilderness. He loves nothing more than getting stuck into outdoor activities, having skied since he was a child and more recently becoming a qualified skydiver. When at home in Shanghai, he loves checking out various Maker Spaces and workshops, playing all kinds of sport and he cycles at every opportunity he can. If you are out and about, look out for his bright red cycle helmet, give him a wave and shout ‘Hi Mr B!'.
