Having graduated from the University of Southampton in Social Policy and Sociology, and then completing his PGCE at the University College of Wales, Michael undertook his first teaching position in his home town of Blackpool before venturing overseas. He has now worked at BISS Puxi for the past five years, after having previously worked in Uruguay, Brunei, Egypt, Ethiopia, Colombia and Kuwait.
Throughout his twenty-nine years of teaching, Michael has worked predominantly in Key Stage 1 and was a Deputy Head of Primary for seven years before coming to China with his wife and two daughters. His family have loved living in Shanghai and working at BISS, mainly due to the friendliness of the people and their willingness to share their culture. The international nature of our school is one of the key reasons that Michael loves working here.
Having married his wife Margarita in Colombia, they soon made the decision to continue their teaching careers in Ethiopia. Michael has now been working overseas for the past twenty-seven years. His eldest daughter, Claudia, graduated from BISS in 2019 and is now attending Leeds University, studying Biology, and his youngest daughter, Nathalia, is enrolled in the IB programme. In his spare time, Michael enjoys a variety of sports including football and snooker, whilst also enjoying watching movies and reading science fiction books. His enjoyment for teaching is only outweighed by his enjoyment of spending time with his family, exploring Shanghai and the rest of the world. At the last count, he has now visited or lived in 101 countries around the world.
