Timothy grew up on the outskirts of South-East London and after completing an undergraduate degree, he travelled around Australia and South East Asia for a year. It was in Northern Thailand that he began teaching English as part of voluntary work for an NGO. He found the experience rewarding and gained his PCGE in Primary Education. Timothy began his career at a school in England, where he was PE coordinator. He then taught in Qatar, where he gained a huge amount of experience working with children who often spoke English as a second language. From there, Timothy moved to Guangzhou when a not to be missed opportunity arose.
With his students, Timothy demonstrates a teaching philosophy that encourages collaboration thorough talk, and engagement through practical activities. He takes a keen interest in the teaching of Maths, and enjoys applying concrete, pictorial and abstract methods throughout his lessons.
In his free time, Timothy enjoys playing sports, especially football, and he has also completed several marathons. He is a keen traveller and enjoys exploring the different environments that China boasts. He is looking forward to getting to know the sights and sounds of Shanghai and immersing himself in the language, culture – and food!
