One of the differences that leading schools provide these days is to add expertise from beyond the school to complement expertise within the school. At BIS Abu Dhabi we often refer to this as Learning From The Best, and being part of a global organisation such as Nord Anglia Education means that we are able to gain access to world-class institutions that might not be available to others.
MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology): MIT is unparalleled in its reputation for Science and Engineering. MIT has written a curriculum specifically for Nord Anglia students and our Upper Primary and Lower Secondary students participate in a series of MIT challenges throughout the year.
Juilliard: Juilliard is probably the most famous name related to education in Performing Arts. Students at BIS Abu Dhabi benefit from the Juilliard Creative Curriculum in Music and Dance at various levels of our school. These Performing Arts subjects are influential in so many ways and have a strong impact on both academic and social development.
UNICEF (the United Nations Children’s Fund): The partnership with UNICEF gives an international focus to learning beyond the classroom, particularly related to Service for others. UNICEF has a set of Global Goals to try and make the world a better place. Our students have the opportunity to work with others internationally to make steps towards these goals, this year focusing on Sustainable Cities and Communities.
These partnerships also give students the amazing opportunity of visiting the institutions themselves. Over the past year BIS Abu Dhabi students have visited MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Juilliard and the United Nations in New York. You can hear directly from the students about this from the following video: click here
It is also worth mentioning that Learn From The Best also applies a little bit closer to home...
Neptunes Swimming Academy: The partnership between BIS Abu Dhabi and Neptunes means that all our students receive swimming coaching from specialist swimming coaches. We see this making a significant difference already, from the progress of the younger swimmers through to the increasingly impressive achievements for our elite swimmers in competitions.
Our Teachers! I am extremely proud of the talented teachers we have at BIS Abu Dhabi whose knowledge, passion and commitment makes such a difference to our students. Our teachers also benefit from expert training via Nord Anglia University and through undertaking Masters programmes via our partnership with Kings College London.
It is such a joy to be a teacher, and even more so at the current time with so many collaborations and opportunities. The heights that can be reached with students of all ages and varied interests is so rewarding and is truly inspiring.
