International School Awards

11 December 2018

  • awards
As we come to the end of term it is always very rewarding to look backwards at students’ achievements and the achievements of the school as whole. There is one very special achievement which I would like to share with you this week.
The International School Awards are a significant annual event which celebrate international schools that are doing outstanding work certain aspects of school life. Hundreds of schools are considered for these awards and I am delighted to be able to inform the BIS Abu Dhabi community that our school has been shortlisted for the award for Creativity in Learning Initiative.
This award highlights the work that the BIS Abu Dhabi staff and students have done in the development of our Learning Showcases throughout the Primary School. Our students showcase their learning and invite their parents to be part of this learning. We have indeed seen wonderful examples of this last week with Year 6 and, just today, with Year 4.
I know how much these events have been appreciated by parents in having the opportunity to engage first-hand in their child’s learning. However, more importantly, it is the fact that the learning has an audience which helps raise the standards even higher. The children work so hard for the showcases and are so pleased and happy to have their parents celebrate their learning with them.
There are many facets of education and the quality of learning is uppermost in the minds of all colleagues at the school. I am exceptionally proud that our hard-working and committed staff have been recognised for a global award such as this.
Winners will be announced at the prestigious awards ceremony on 21st January 2019 in London.
A wonderful way to round off the term!
Patrick Horne, Principal
