Foundation Stage tuck into Ice-Cream at Swensen’s!

This week FS2 had their first school trip of the year. The FS2 classes visited Swensen's ice cream shop at Gateway and what a trip it was! In order to prepare children for their trip, a social story was shared prior to our visit ensuring all children were aware of procedures and expectations.

Children had the opportunity to develop and strengthen a range of their skills in a new and exciting experience. Communication and language skills were practised when children confidently ordered their ice cream and paid for this by themselves, they were thrilled with their very own receipt and change! Most of all the children developed self-confidence and independence while having fun. 

Everybody came away with a smile and a full tummy and are already asking what the next school trip will be!

Year 5 enjoy a trip to D-Sports

Last week, Year 5 went on a field trip to D-Sports, a comprehensive indoor sports entertainment complex in Bangkok. The kids were ecstatic to be able to participate in a variety of activities alongside their classmates.

There were numerous competitions on the day, such as a bouldering wall competition in which the children raced to the summit as quickly (and safely) as possible. A thrilling air hockey match also took place, combined with frantic ping pong and tennis competitions where children battled for the highest score! Children also honed their batting skills playing baseball, badminton and football games as well as shooting basketball hoops too. They even had fun bouncing on trampolines and competed in dance-offs! There was also House Competition action, with Akha, Lahu, Karen, and Yao participating in Volleyball matches. For those in need of rest and relaxation there was also a soft play and chill out area too!

Year 6 visit the VIE Hotel, Bangkok

This term, in Year 6, we have been participating in Project-Based Learning. Our driving question is “How can we promote tourism in Thailand?” In order to solve this problem, we decided to create our own unique eco-friendly resort.

On Wednesday 25th May, we went to the Vie Hotel to discuss our hotel ideas with an expert in his field: the General Manager, Mr Nicolas Peth. It was an incredibly amazing and absolutely rewarding experience.

We learned how important it is to disturb the environment as little as possible. We learned about filtering water, using recycled plastic to make things in the hotel, using wind turbines for electricity, using natural air ventilation instead of air conditioning, using local products and visiting local villages as activities, having non-motorised activities, avoiding noise pollution, water pollution and air pollution. We learned a great deal. At the end, he stressed the importance of making the resort attractive and having great luxury where guests can make choices.

We had a wonderful time with Mr Nicolas. It was hugely educational and so much fun. We are now re-visiting our hotel ideas, making some changes and moving forward with enthusiasm.

Successful fundraiser at STA

For a few years now during Book Week, we have been raising money for a charity which supplies books for underprivileged communities in Thailand.

The first time we supported the charity, the founder Ms Yoshimi came into school and taught the children how braille allows the vision impaired to read books. We have continued to support the charity. Ms Yohsimi went back to Japan during the pandemic and has only just returned to Thailand and offered to come back to school in the future. 

Children in the Primary School were invited to join the sponsored event during Book Week to read as many books as they could and get sponsored by their families and friends.

The total raised was over 40,000 baht!
