I have worked as an Art and Design Specialist for over 14 years in the UK, Abu Dhabi and now in Bangkok, continuing my role within the Nord Anglia family.
I feel that before I came here to work I already had a strong affinity with Thailand as I have studied Muay boxing for several years and participated in a training tour in Thailand with my gym. I have also travelled around Thailand many times and hold fond memories of the people and culture which make it a vibrant and unique place to be.
My BA Hons is in Visual Communication (Fine Art) which gave me a depth and breadth of knowledge, skills and understanding over a wide range of Art and Design disciplines. I studied fine Art, illustration, Graphic Design, Print-Making, Photography, Time based media, Animation, Fashion Drawing and Puppetry and Performance. This experience has been invaluable in my KS3, 4 and 5 teaching as I have been able to deliver projects in a variety of art forms, offering my students a diverse learning experience.
I feel I have a strong desire to teach Art and communicate my passion to young people. It has been amazing to facilitate the development of the Art Department, expanding provisions and opportunities for STA students to grow as individuals.
My additional role within school is CAS/Whole School Service Coordinator which I thoroughly enjoy. Assisting potentially life changing experiences beyond the classroom and facilitating opportunities to serve is something I feel incredibly passionate about. This is evident in the types of roles I have had separate to my teaching role during my career.
Our school is an ever improving one which caters for students with a wide range of abilities and needs. Our diversity is to be celebrated and should form a very important part of our dialogue with the community which we serve. As a non-selective school it is even more important that we find ways to be ‘different’ and to give our students experiences which are unique to STA and prepare them to be good citizens for the future.
Outside of the classroom I am also a practicing Artist, Yoga/Meditation Teacher and Qualified Personal trainer. I try to lead an active lifestyle in which I can demonstrate to students that I can lead by example. I am presently volunteering at the Sikh Gurdwara, Mercy Centre and working with the Refugee communities in Thailand to name a few. I have also done my PADI training with our students as well as rock climbing and sailing, as showing a willingness and humility to learn from our students and give them an opportunity to teach is a very important part of them learning how to interact in the world.
External the classroom I will try most activities, with varying degrees of success! I enjoy painting as it is important to me that I continue my practice as an artist. I also love everything outdoors and enjoy camping whenever the opportunity arises. A holistic approach to life is integral to my character, and I enjoy helping people achieve success and balance as individuals.
I take pride in nurturing my students in a warm, friendly and inspirational environment. I strongly believe that as soon as you stop learning, you stop growing as a person; this is a philosophy which I follow as an individual and embed in my students' education.
