Jose O'Donovan

Year 6 Teacher (6J) and KS2 ICT Co-ordinator

After completing my degree in Digital Media Development from Brighton University in the UK, I worked for several IT companies before realising that my passion was really in teaching. I come from a family of teachers, my two sisters are both teachers and my mum was a teacher until she retired.

After training to become a teacher with Nottingham University and the National Association of British Schools in Spain, I started my career at an International School in the Alicante area. After that my wife, who is also a teacher, and I received a unique opportunity to live and teach in The Seychelles at the International School there. I was an ICT specialist teacher and taught across the Key Stage from Year 3 all the way to Year 11 where I taught IGCSE ICT. We both enjoyed living in such a unique place but after two years we wanted to further our careers and continue to develop as teachers, this lead us to travel to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where we spent the next two years of our lives.

In Malaysia I was a Year 5 teacher as well as a Learning Technologies coach where I supported students and teachers in the schools 1:1 iPad programme. Our time in Malaysia really allowed us to grow as professionals, we had the opportunity to visit many schools in the region to observe and share good practice. I am especially proud of being part of the team that worked together to achieve the status of Apple Distinguished School which Apple awards to schools that demonstrate an innovative approach to teaching and learning through the use of technology.

I am excited to be at St Andrews International School Bangkok and become part of such a fantastic community of teachers, parents and students and I look forward to my time here. In the time that my wife and I have been here we have already experienced the family and community feel that the school has, making it a wonderful place to teach and learn.
