Year 4 trip to the Zoo

Year 4 finally made it on their trip to Beijing Zoo on Thursday this week.

  • Y4 Trip to Beijing Zoo

The children had a wonderful day in the glorious sunshine exploring the many exhibits of the zoo. The trip linked to our topic ‘The Planeteers’ where we have been thinking about our world, the variety of life in it and our responsibility to look after it.

Whilst looking around the zoo the children’s focus was on the quality of the enclosures that had been made for the different animals. We thought back to our work on habitats to consider what these animals would have in the wild and how well their man-made environment was meeting their needs.

The children had lots of good discussion about the amount of space and stimulation different animals required and rated each exhibit as excellence, good, fair or poor. Our findings from the trip will help us back up opinions for our debate on the last day of term about whether animals should be kept in captivity.
