This term in Science Year 2 are learning all about Living Things and The Habitats, it provides a great link to our topic – Meerkat Mail –  thinking about how animals survive in the wild, what a habitat provides and how animals have adapted to their habitat.

This week Year 2 have been thinking about micro-habitats.  First, the children worked in teams to think about the different habitats that may be in the local area and discuss what they may find living there.

Once complete, they headed outside to investigate what creatures where found in each of the habitats.  The children found a few small insects living in the bushes and the surrounding areas.

Unfortunately, there were not many micro-habitats to explore or creatures to be found.  However, this provided a great talking point about how the location and weather can affect the number of creatures living there.
