China’s Culture From a Performing Arts Perspective

14 February 2019

This term the children have been learning a Chinese dance as part of the Juilliard collaboration for Chinese New Year.

Every child from Year 1 through to Year 6 participated in filming the dance and the footage will be combined with the other Nord Anglia schools within China to form a montage of celebration.

This was a great way for the children to have a more in depth look at China’s culture from a Performing Arts perspective and we even got Miss Allen and the Year 6 Falcons involved for a bit of a surprise twist at the end. You will get to see what this is when we release the video!

Within the Juilliard Dance curriculum the lessons explore many countries and their national dance and with a pending visit from our Juilliard Dance Curriculum specialist, Donna Costello, we are now focusing on Spain and the wonderful style of Flamenco. Even our Early Years children are getting involved in this and have loved trying to create the rhythms with their feet and the silent arm movements in the alegrías.
