I have now been teaching at BSB Sanlitun for one year and it’s been great fun, full of fantastic opportunities. Prior to joining BSB Sanlitun, I had been teaching at a large inner-city London school, where I taught both Year 4 and Year 6. I studied English and Sociology at The University of Sunderland and also volunteered at local primary schools, running book clubs and supporting teachers. It was this opportunity that inspired me to become a teacher, so after graduating I decided to carry on with my studies at Sunderland and complete my PGCE.

I completed my degree in Psychology and Sport Studies at Stirling University in 2009. Through further employment opportunities in sport and working with young people, I found out where my strengths lay which led me to complete my Postgraduate training in Primary Education at Dundee University. One of the most challenging but rewarding decisions I have ever made was to become a primary teacher. I have been teaching in Scotland for the past 4 years and I will begin my 5th year of teaching at BSB Sanlitun.

Choosing to become a primary school teacher is the best decision I have ever made. I can’t imagine having any other job. Every day is different, every child is unique and you embark together on a learning journey of discovery with lots of laughs and smiles along the way. At the beginning of my career, three years were spent in Scotland gaining experience in all stages of Primary. My first year of teaching was spent on Isle of Islay, a beautiful remote island off the west coast of Scotland. Before moving to Beijing I spent four years teaching on the sunny island of Cyprus.
