I will always remember a conversation I had with my Grandma when I was 8 years old. I told her that I wanted to be a teacher and it seemed that, even at a young age, I knew it would be the best decision I would ever make.

My teaching career began in 2015 after completing a BSc Honours degree in Psychology and Criminology at University of Salford. I taught for four years at an outstanding school in Bolton, Manchester in Years 3, 4 and 5 where I was the coordinator of Computing, professional mentor for trainee teachers and recipient of Bolton’s Primary Teacher of the Year Award. I also completed the National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership. Working with and supporting children and families from disadvantaged backgrounds, I developed a philosophy very much centred on nurturing young people whilst empowering them to be ambitious and shape their own future.

This will now be my third year here at BSB Sanlitun and it’s been a great adventure so far, full of fantastic opportunities. Prior to joining BSB, I had been teaching at a large inner-city London school, where I taught both Year 4 and Year 6. I studied English and Sociology at The University of Sunderland and also volunteered at local primary schools, running book clubs and supporting teachers. It was this opportunity that inspired me to become a teacher, so after graduating I decided to carry on with my studies at Sunderland and complete my PGCE.

After completing my degree in Psychology and Sport Studies at Stirling University in 2009, I felt it was time to find out through further employment opportunities in sport and working with young people to find out where my strongest skills lay; and this led me to complete my Postgraduate training in Primary Education at Dundee University in 2014. One of the most challenging but rewarding decisions I have ever made was to become a primary teacher. I taught in Scotland for 4 years and this year will bemy 2nd year teaching at BSB Sanlitun.

I began my teaching career in 2012 volunteering at a small school in Brighton. This provided me with invaluable experience and paved the way to completing my PGCE at the University of Brighton. After I graduated I worked in a two form entry school in Eastbourne as a Year 2 class teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the school, however an opportunity was presented that would allow me to combine my passion for teaching, with my passion for travel.
