I was born in Colchester, near London and I went to University in Scotland. Once I qualified and got my PGCE in 2004, I then started working in schools in my hometown. Since then I have worked in China and Qatar. Having worked for Nord Anglia for the previous six years, I am really excited to be able to make BSB Sanlitun my third Nord Anglia School.
I have taught senior students as a History specialist, as well as KS2 students at 3 different schools, and I am passionate believer in the importance of developing critical thinking in students. This does not mean I think Year 4 should be writing essays, but I do want them to try and explain why they like things and why they think something is important. Having taught older students for part of my career I know that being able to reason is a really important skill that I want to develop in younger students.
Outside of school I am a little spoilt for choice as my three great loves are music, history and cooking. Beijing has such a wealth of culture and history that it is one of the big reasons I wanted to return here. Coupled with cuisines, ingredients and musical styles from all over the world I only regret that I don’t have the time to see all the events that the city has to offer.
