‘Ambition’, has always been something I have considered important throughout my life. Learning to work above and beyond and to ‘believe to achieve’ is something I have always kept in mind throughout the last 14 years of my teaching career. Whilst studying for a Master degree in Mathematics and Physics at University College London (UCL) in 2005, I realised that teaching was something I was passionate about. After completing my degree, I went on to study for a PGCE at Middlesex University and became a qualified teacher in 2007. Years of working in various schools in London gave me valuable experience and insight and I was ready for a new challenge.
So, in 2011, I decided to work abroad and joined Compass International School, a Nord Anglia school, in Doha Qatar. Being in Qatar and teaching at an international school was a truly wonderful experience that helped me further deepen my passion for teaching and my understanding of educational pedagogy. Engaging students, making meaningful learning experiences and encouraging independent learning was at the heart of my approach. As well as teaching various ages Reception, Year 1, 2 and 5, I also had a number of leadership roles such as Head of year 5, 6, STEAM co-ordinator and Computing Lead.
My work in 2011 to raise the profile of computing encouraged the school to begin its digital journey. Being passionate about the effective use of technology has allowed me to support students, parents and staff.
I was also one of the first members of staff to be involved in the MIT/ STEAM collaboration and successfully created and implemented STEAM projects over the last few years.
Throughout my 7 years at CISD I helped develop various initiatives to enhance learning for the students these ranged from working in our school bilingual programme, developing whole school projects aligned with UNICEF and leading whole school performances during productions and school events.
I moved to Beijing in 2018 with my wife and 2 sons and have worked at BSB Shunyi for the last 2 years as Head of Year 6.
Only in Beijing do you get such a wonderful mix of cultures working in harmony together fusing modern and traditional culture. Unique to the city and to the school. Sharing my skills and experience and working with the team at BSB Sanlitun is something I am really looking forward to… and to really know what message I want to share, read the first letter of every sentence.
