BISB Students to Enter American Maths Competition BISB students are hard at work developing their math skills this fall, preparing for an entrance in the annual American Maths Competition in November. As school starts back up this fall, British International School of Boston middle school students will be paying particular attention to their maths skills, preparing for the school's first entry into the American Maths Competition.

All BISB students in Years 7 to 9 will participate in the nationwide mathematics competition on Tuesday, November 18.

The AMC is a 25-question, 40-minute multiple choice examination, designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills in students. The questions provide opportunities to apply concepts taught in school requiring students to solve problems ranging from easy to difficult and cover a wide range of applications.

BISB students will have the chance to win a variety of awards available to all participansts, including a special designation for the student in the school with the highest score. The highest-scoring students are invited to participate in the AMC 10, the high school level of the American Maths Competition.

The competition is a great opportunity for our students,  and can lead to other selective maths contests- even all the way to the United States team sent to the International Mathematics Olympiad.

But according to BISB maths teacher Stuart Graham, the real reward of the competition is challenging each student with mathematics work that is new, different and outside the box.
