Head of Music

Before coming to BISB in fall 2015, I had been working in a school in South Wales for just under 7 years now as a Music teacher as well as head of key stage 4 over the last two years. Before this I worked in a variety of challenging inner city school in Cardiff and the surrounding areas.

Both sides of my career so far have offered me many unique challenges which I have enjoyed immensely. In my schools I have enjoyed the extra curricular side of my job, being able to perform many different styles of music in summer and Christmas concerts as well as creating and performing three musicals written by myself and the pupils together before putting popular rock and pop songs into the music. I think these shows are my biggest achievement in school.

Inspiring Students Through Music

About me

I am a keen sportsman and love playing both football and golf. I'll watch pretty much any sport and I am excited to sample the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots. I am an avid Newcastle United supporter and will keep following them through any means possible in Boston, whilst also hoping to bring my 22 golf handicap down too!

I am obviously passionate about music and love playing the guitar and singing, which are my main instruments. I can also play the flute, too. I love listening to all styles of music, but my favourite bands are artists are: Oasis, Manic Street Preachers, Bruce Springsteen, Ocean Colour Scene, Madness, The Specials and The Jam.

What my students say

"Mr Rees is a fantastic teacher and is firm but fair. He is strict and fun and treats his students with respect." - Year 9 student

"Mr Rees is funny, friendly, and enthusiastic. He puts on a concert every Christmas and always makes lessons fun. He gets involved in everything we do in school like shows, sports day and the golf day." - Year 8 student

"I think Mr Rees is very organised and always prepares for his lessons. He is always willing to help me when I find things difficult as I am dyslexic." - Year 8 student

what makes this school different

I am excited to be working at BISB because of the variety of international backgrounds people originate from. I want a truly international experience in BISB and I hope that I can experience pupils different musical cultures and backgrounds.
