This school year, we’ve introduced Drama to students in Years 7-11, and they are excited! Since the term started, students have been learning about body language, facial expressions and focus, and this week they applied these skills to a variety of performances and lessons.

Year 7 students have started to devise a group performance based on the premise, “the first day of school.” They have gone wild with their imaginations, creating interesting characters and storylines. They’ll put on their final performance in the coming days.

In Year 8, students have started performing a genre of theatre called Commedia dell'arte, which is characterized by improvised dialogue and colorful characters. This week they explored the character Zanni, best known to be a trickster.

Year 9 students are diving deeper into physical theatre, in which actors tell stories through movement, and created a kitchen using their bodies!

Students in Year 10 are exploring script work.

Year 11 students are starting an interesting project that’s linked to our music curriculum. They will devise a performance using a stimulus, which is anything that stimulates your imagination. Then they will compose a soundscape in their Music class to enhance the performance.

We are thrilled by how students are responding to their new Drama class!
