The newly formed junior varsity team stayed calm under pressure and ran all practiced offensive strategies with confidence. We ran a half-court 2-3 zone press that caused frequent turnovers of the ball and many forced passes allowing us to intercept the ball. Chris A. should be mentioned for his strong rebounding performance and consistent strength and passion throughout the game. As a whole, the team’s shooting was also on point, with many successful lay-ups and free throws to add to the score as well as many strong drives to the basket by Mikey H. We maintained this strength throughout the match and won the game 38-16. It was a very promising start, which has left all spectators excited for games to come!
The varsity team also played an outstanding game. After falling behind in the first half, we returned to the court in the second half with several offensive strategies that enabled us to create space to drive toward the basket and achieve lay-ups and calls for fouls in the process of shooting. What really made the difference was space created for Jack Z. to basket three fantastic three-pointers in a row and then another later in the second half. This gave the Bulldogs a shot of energy, and we fought hard to finish the game extremely close at 39-35.
It’s going to be an entertaining season!
