Each holiday season, the BISC community unites in an effort to provide items for community members in need. Read on to learn about our dedicated efforts this year.
In November we collaborated with a local organization, called Chicago Commons, to host a Thanksgiving food drive. For 120 years, Chicago Commons has partnered with people across Chicago to help them overcome poverty, discrimination and isolation. We donated packaged and canned food items that Chicago Commons will pass on to people in need. There were so many contributions, that students formed an assembly line to load the truck!
We also partnered with Chicago Commons for a toy drive. From dolls to board games, the drive collected dozens of toys, as well as diapers, that will be gifted to children through age five in our community.
We teamed up with StreetWise for a winter coat drive to aid street vendors who work for the agency. The StreetWise organization helps Chicago homeless men and women achieve personal stability and strength, and also aids with social services and employment. We collected approximately 200 coats that will keep StreetWise vendors warm during Chicago’s blustery winters.
