BSC was honored to have Secretary Jesse White visit our Global Classroom leaders on Thursday, March 11. Mr. Secretary had generously given up his time to listen to our students regarding our “Make It Right” campaign. This special occasion was a remarkable springboard to highlight the plight of Food Deserts in Chicago; Food Deserts are areas where there are no grocery stores within 1-10 miles.
The Global Classroom Leaders had worked hard over the last few months promoting this worthy cause on the internet (Change.org), locally and within the school. There had been much preparation and masses of excitement leading up to his visit.
Secretary White was extremely personable and shared with us his interesting background and it was clear to all in the room that he has a genuine desire to help others. He provided practical advice such as how to contact your Alderman to more general advice on life and how you should approach it. The title of our campaign resonated with the Secretary as a way to live one’s life and empowered us as students to keep moving forward. So work hard, help others, and most importantly - Make it right!
